Well-Received Launch of the New McGlynn Library Mindfulness Room
“Calm,” “cozy”, and “blissful” are just a few words 6th grade students use to describe how the McGlynn Library’s new Mindfulness Room makes them feel. “I like it because it is peaceful,” one 6th grader explained. “It makes me feel calm and cozy,” another added. A 3rd grader described how the quietness of the room helps her imagination thrive when she is reading – “it’s nice to be in a quiet place to read and imagine things in the story.”
Through the generous financial support of an MEF grant, the McGlynn elementary and middle school library teachers, Kris Johnson and Jason Campbell, worked collaboratively to create a Mindfulness Room for their library classes. The room supports all learners and contributes to a sense of belonging – there is a space at school for all of us.
This new dedicated quiet area provides a calm and completely quiet space for students to read when using the library during library classes and structured library times. With soft lighting and comfortable seating, students may use the room for silent reading, quiet contemplation, or a moment to refocus.
Thank you to the Medford Educational Foundation for the grant which funded furnishings for the room to create this amazing space.
